This week in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, schools across the country are pausing to consider the legacy of one of America’s greatest orators and activists. In his most famous sermon, King declared that he had a dream that one day students of every color would be able to attend school in harmony. In many ways Mercersburg is proof that such visions can come to fruition as here, students of every color, culture, and creed live and learn together. Still, this world is far from overcoming its issues centering around race, and black Mercersburg Academy alumni are making their way in the art world. Sahir Champion ‘92 and Ava Paul ‘18 are both passionate artists using their respective fields to express themselves, and The Mercersburg News Arts Page is recognizing their accomplishments.
