William Linch has joined the Mercersburg Academy faculty this year to teach Algebra II, Physics, and AS Physics: Mechanics. Linch said, “I came to Mercersburg Academy to help students learn. I found out that I enjoyed teaching after studying and researching mathematics and physics for 15 years.”
Linch is excited to be working with high school students after teaching at the college level. He said, “I’m happy I got the opportunity to come here. I get to meet and speak with a bunch of amazing people with brilliant ideas about different concepts.”
The schedule is also a benefit to Linch. “In the past, I rarely had time to do anything outside of research. Here, I am still very busy but it is different. I look forward to trying to get back to some of the things I haven’t done in years like skating and painting. I would also like to start rock climbing,” he said.
“I would like to try to incorporate what I’ve learned over the years into what I and other teachers can teach here. I have a pile of ideas such as writing new textbooks,” said Linch, “I’ve been thinking about how we can connect and teach the fundamentals of mathematics and science.”
Linch will also be joining the track and field coaching staff. “I have no experience in track and field. I hear the timing system is quite intimidating, too, but I am in good hands. So far, everyone here has been great at helping me to succeed, so I don’t expect they’ll let me fail at the track!”
