Justin Ledesma joins the Mercersburg Academy community this year as an Associative Director of College Counseling. Before coming to Mercersburg, Ledesma worked in college admissions.
“I certainly enjoyed the nearly 20 years in college admission that I had had at Drexel and most recently Villanova. I have always found great joy in helping students find their way to the colleges I worked for. However, as of late, I had a desire to become more integrated into a school community as a college counselor. I wasn’t really sure about the idea of boarding school when I started my application here, but as I met more and more of the school community, I began to see that the move here would be a great thing!” said Ledesma.
Ledesma is looking forward to experiencing the unique culture and tradition of Mercersburg. He said, “I have always been a big supporter of school spirit and tradition, and I had read about Irving Marshall Week before I even arrived here. It’s my understanding that this is a source of great pride and enthusiasm at the school that dates very far back in the school’s history. I am excited to see the school community come together during that week, but also in what I am certain will be many other times throughout the school year.”
Along with his enthusiasm, passion, and positive attitude, Ledesma said, “One thing I hope that all the students I work with will gain from me is a growing comfort with themselves. Embrace your nerdiness, everyone!”
About his role in college counseling, Ledesma said, “I hope that I can help reduce the stress associated with applying to college. I am certain that part of making that happen is emphasizing the fun and exciting aspects of college and the adventure that the next years after Mercersburg will bring.”
