Glenn McKevitt joined the Mercersburg Academy language department this fall as a Spanish teacher. “I was a Spanish teacher and soccer coach in Santa Rosa, California for thirteen years before coming here. Once I started the process of coming to work here, I knew it was a great fit for me and my family so we made the move!”
McKevitt enjoys looking beyond the typical curriculum and his less than conventional ideas bring flair to his teaching. He said, “I would love to have a Flamenco dancer come to campus to perform and maybe give some lessons. It can be so powerful and I think students here would enjoy it.”
McKevitt, of course, also coaches soccer. “It will be great to work with a new team and new coaches,” said McKevitt, “I am always trying to learn and improve as a coach so I think this year will be good for that. I was a coach in California at the high school level for 13 years. I also played a lot in my youth and the sport, in general, is a bit of an obsession for me.”
McKevitt is a fan of Manchester United in the Premier League. “I never miss a game, and they have been my team since I was about 8 years old.”
Soccer isn’t his only hobby, however. He is also a nature enthusiast“I love spending time outdoors with my family and we love to go hiking so I am excited to discover some good trails around here. I also love the ocean so any chance I get to go there I usually take it.”
This year, McKevitt is most looking forward to learning the culture of Mercersburg. “I love my job, so hopefully I can be a positive addition to the already amazing faculty here.”
